Overview of Key Terms/Concepts

  1. Triple Bottom Line: The Triple Bottom Line measures a company’s commitment to three core areas: People, Planet, and Profit. It evaluates not just financial performance but also the company's impact on society and the environment (Elkington, 1994). A business practicing Triple Bottom Line aims for sustainable growth by balancing social responsibility, environmental stewardship, and profitability.

  2. Corporate Social Responsibility: Corporate Social Responsibility refers to a company’s voluntary efforts to positively impact society beyond its financial obligations. It involves ethical practices like community engagement, employee well-being, and environmental sustainability (Carroll, 1991). Corporate Social Responsibility demonstrates a company’s commitment to ethical business behavior.

  3. Social Enterprise: A social enterprise is an organization that applies business strategies to achieve social, cultural, or environmental goals. Unlike traditional businesses, social enterprises prioritize solving societal issues over maximizing profits, though they remain profit-generating to sustain operations (Defourny & Nyssens, 2010).

  4. Carbon Footprint: A carbon footprint refers to the total greenhouse gasses emitted directly or indirectly by human activities, measured in units of carbon dioxide (CO2). It is crucial to reduce carbon footprints to mitigate climate change and limit environmental degradation (Wiedmann & Minx, 2008). Carbon footprints can be measured through tools like the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, which tracks emissions from business operations and supply chains.
